put gel in between your fingers and run it through your layers straight up as you blow dry it use a little more gel at the roots then the top fro some volume

this is how i get my hair to stick up and out
first off, i dont wash it everyday because i think its MUCH easier to style when it hasnt been washed the day before.
ok, so, i straighten my hair, all of it.
then, i hold my head upside down and start to starighten it going down. and i do that for a while. when i lift my head up, its sticking up and out, so, i just adjust it to stick out the way i want it to stick out, and then i use hairspray to hold.
Most people say Bedhead is a good hairspray, but I use Aussie Instant Freeze hairspray, and it works really well.

hm..i usually like short hair for the summer i think your hair is pretty cool. but it was pretty when it was long too! try getting more layers to your short cut to make it look more piecey and edgy. otherwise, its awesome!

dont regret of what u ve done in the case of ur recent haircut ! u look nice and moreover it will grow again. this is a trendy style, u can wear it like this, or when u want to have a diffrent look u can apply a little bit of styling gell or shining gell on the edges i mean on ur forehead and ear sides, it would look great as u have a pretty shaped face

Sweety, I will say this. You definetly have the facial structure to pull off a short haircut so don't even worry about it. It will definetly take a bit of time to get used to it considering all of the length that you have cut off, but I'm sure that come a few weeks you'll really start to like it. Don't settle on just one hairstyle though. Experiment around with what you have now. You can do all kinds of different interesting styles with short hair and you can even put on a bit of make-up to bring out your best features and make the hair really work for you. Just experiment and have fun with it! ^.~

I had to get a short chopped up hair cut due to a bad permanent straightener and over a year of highlights that thinned out and damaged my fine thin once naturally curly hair. Sooo, I got extensions just in the sides since the sides were in the worst condition at the ends and were a tad shorter than the back and had to be curled/styled every day. BUT, now the extensions have to be styled every day because otherwise they are stringy and are VERY hard to fluff and dry when wet. The back of my hair has grown but is now in long choppy layers and the top has grown and some of the curl is coming back on top, in the bangs and underneath the back. It's time for a trim anyway, as it's been over 5 or 6 weeks now since my last trim, and the extensions were put in the sides about 3 or 4 weeks ago. I had them put in to help get me through a cruise in the wind, but they didn't hold up all that well to wind and water. I have an appointment with my newly found stylist that is about the only one I
Hi, I kind of followed your hair questions, since I'm going through the same problems you have had.
I don't have any advice for you 'cause I'm having issues with my hair too. But I just want to ask you though, how you are able to still do all the drying and coloring to your hair? Aren't those going to damage your hair more? I think your hair needs to recover still after your bad straightening. I didn't use those hair appliances for almost 2 months now and it has really helped my hair. I struggle with styling/setting my hair, but i just tie it and dont do anything more, so I don't aggravate it.
I hope you are no longer depressed about this though. I was for a while, but I have to come terms about it and just deal with it. My hair is still breaking and shedding, but there's nothing much I can do, but hope that my hair recovers before I completely go bald.

Try and find a nice picture of a style you like on the internet.. try google image searcher or yahoo image.... then print it out and take it to your hair dresser.. or maybe look through a hair magazine in the hairdresser shop and show her what you like

my layers are pretty short, and i volumize them to make it look scene,my bangs are swoopy and i like them a lot.
i think you should do a lot of short layers and thinning it out always helps too. :]

you can ask them to wash it before they cut it. most places wash your hair anyway as part of the package. If this is your first time make sure you tell them it is your first time. but dont buy everything they reccommend. unless you went there with the intent on buying something because whilst they are looking out for your best interest they are also getting a commission for whatever product they sell you. i've had clients come in with dirty hair knowing that im going to wash it and why would you wash it before you come in when someone else will do it for you plus a scalp massage as well. thats the best part about going to the hairdressers!!
Unless you say you don't want it, most pro salons do that automatically. So I don't a big problem.

Once it gets as long as ur eyes who have to keep puching your hair in the front of your eyes to a side. Most skater wear a hat and the hair is showing on one side of the hat. Just trust me let it grow out it will look awesome....ever think about dying it....put highlights in it if its brown like ryan shecklers old hair...or if you dont want to grow it out do ryan shecklers hair how he has it now...its shaved...if u dont want it shaved and spicky in the front then get a kick butt mohawk...but make sure its not that long or it will look emo wanna beish if u get what im saying

Try and find a nice picture of a style you like on the internet.. try google image searcher or yahoo image.... then print it out and take it to your hair dresser.. or maybe look through a hair magazine in the hairdresser shop and show her what you like

go to a chemist and purchase a perm solution make the solution up and add talc powder to it and make it like paste comb the solution on the curly bits keep combing till straight leave on for the recommend time and wash off the curls will be gone hope this helps and trust me it does work....
try purchasing a small straightener at like cvs or something they are about fifteen dollars, just straighten the ends of you hair.
You can try getting it chemically straightened at a hair salon.

Dare I have to mention using straightners? It is starting to curl because I reckon your hair is touching either your shoulders or your neckline. Only thing I can suggest is only get your curly bits trimmed regularly.

Ask for a choppy fringe at the front, and if you want it to be real scene ask for it to be left longer at the back so you can stick it up. My hair is alot like Pete Wentz hair just a bit shorter and i styled the fringe myself...I wouldn't recommend it though!

well i really can't tell if i don't see ur pic. cause ur hairstyle has to go with your eyes and skin colour and you face shape.
but i recently saw this website where you find out what shape is your face and they show haircuts and stuff like that. maybe you'll get some ideas. or tell your stylist to surprize you with a haircut, ok but you can be dissapointed after. if you still don't know, go for asymmetrical haircut. makes u get noticed.

Today I had my hair cut to shoulder length (It used to be mid-back). I love the look, but since my hair is SUPER THICK, it looks kind of POOF-y. I've tried straightening it and I had my stylist add layers to thin it out a bit, but the bottom looks puffy. How can I make it look not so poofy. Will flipping it in help? Am I just getting used to it? Please help if you can. Thank you!!!
I had the exact same problem. I went from long to short layers and it was poofy. Straightening it will help a little bit. What I do sometimes, is wet it down, and spray hair spray in when it's wetted down. That usually helps.
If not, I get my hair thinned. Most salons will have thinning scissors. Just ask them to thin your hair.
If you're talking about frizz, try John Frieda Frizz Ease.
umm the green sunsilk for frizzy hair will really help.. even if you don't have frizzy hair it will still calm it down and make it look smoother

Ok, I'm a teen (13) and I'm getting my haircut today. I have, like, these thin (but there's a lot) baby hairs on my forehead, and it looks super ugly and you can plainly see them. Looks like a quarter of a fringe plus a bad haircut. Is there anyway for the stylist to cut them without giving me a total buzz cut? School starts on Tuesday and I can't afford to look bad. They're less than an inch long, and there's also some of it UNDER my bangs. When I put my hair in a ponytail, you can see it and it looks like a forgot to put them back.

I dont think cutting them off would look good, cause when they start to grow back in it will look even worse than it does now. I would say to just let them grow, a lot of people have hair like that. If it helps at all try using hair spray or gel, or you could wear a head band the first day back to school. I hope this helps, good luck at school this year.
I agree, cutting them, especially if you have a LOT of them, is a bad idea. If your hair is reasonably straight, you could get blunt bangs to completely hide your hairline. With a straightening iron, they should be reasonably easy to style every morning.
When pulling all your hair back, apply gel to wet hair, especially the front, and brush it all back. If it dries and you can still see them, try some pomade, but not too much or your hair will look greasy.

However, I think it's important to remember that other people don't notice the little details of our appearance. But if it's really bothering you, then it's worth doing something about.
whatever you do DO NOT CUT THEM! i did that in grade 5 and i had these mini bangs straight across and it looked HORRIBLE! i looked so dumb!

theres a 50%chance they will look really good and there is a 50% chance they won't look good at all and it all really depends on how good the quality of the dye is and what colour.
If you do end up putting in highlights buy temporary color that way if you totally hate it it won't last long.
You can find temporary hair color in drugstores.
make sure you find the right color for you!
I suggest that if you highlight it (if your hair is brown) you should go with lighter brown highlight to blend with you hair... if ou highliht it with blonde it might look unnatural the blending of yoour hair color would probably look great.

So I got my hair cut and highlighted today. The total ended up being $140. Granted I've never highlighted my hair I didn't know how much of a tip to give her... so I left her $10. So I should have been charged $150. (Reading online about stylist tips I guess I should have left more... but she does own the salon) Anyway... she charged my card $168! I don't know if I should run the risk of looking cheap by calling her out on it or just let it go... The principle kind of bothers me though that she would do that. What do you think?
Well, I've never heard of mandatory tipping at hair salons...and certainly not set percentages. She probably made a mistake. What I'd do, is go back to the salon and ask about the overcharge. If she admits it was a mistake, and you're feeling generous...I'd tell her to keep the charge as a tip. If however she's rude and/or tells you anything about under-tipping, I'd demand the entire overcharge back(including your 10.00 tip) and not go back.
I would go back and talk with the manager, they keep a log with appointments on what it was for. Discuss it with management :)

You are not looking cheap at all...What she did was WRONG...she may have just made a mistake but you must go back and say something....Bring your receipt and just explain nicely...Say something like...I think there was a mistake made....as long as you are nice about it dont worry...like I saod everyone makes mistakes...but you CANNOT let it go.
I know salons that charge $125 for hair cuts and $150 for hair color or highlights including tips, but she ripped you off because the agreement wasn't that you pay 168. If she had you sign a receipt and you over looked how much you were charged then you should let it go because that was your mistake but if not, then definetly go after her. It's not being cheap, it's being fair and honest. But either way I don't think you should go back there and let her know how you feel about it.
Anyways though, don't upset yourself over it. If she gives you some of the money back then good, if she doesn't then just learn from your mistake and make sure you have a confirmed agreement on how much yu will be charged.

If she owns the salon, there probably isn't much you can do about it. I'm pretty sure most hair salons set their own prices.
My friend got her hair highlighted with 2 or 3 different highlight tones, and the highlighting was about $70.00 and she had pretty long hair at the time. That was at JC Penney's salon in the mall.
And rule of thumb usually is 10-15 % of the total cost. I think you might have been ok on the tip you left her. Besides, most people don't think to tip their hair stylist anyways.
Try working it out with the salon first. It was probably a mistake and they will credit your account the difference. If, for some reason, they do not or they tell you that it was supposed to be 168 dollars then you can call your credit card and dispute the amount. The credit card company will usually work it out for you and credit the difference to your account but do not wait to long. If you have a receipt then you are more likely to get helped from the credit card company. If the salon did in fact make a mistake and charge you to much they are likely to credit your account and offer you something "like 10% off your next visit" or a free blow out or something like that. Most salons want happy customers.
You should double check their policy. At some salons and spas they will automatically charge you 20% gratuity. Sounds about right if she added $28 bucks to your bill. If there is no fine print or a sign at the register then you should for bring it their attention because that's pretty shady. If you feel that her service is only worth $10 then stick with it. I would have personally left $10-$15 if I was just satisfied with the service or $20 if I loved my new hair.
I have been going to the same hair stylist for about a year now.
Every time I go in there she charges me a little more.
It started out at $70.00 for a cut and color...
then a few months later she moved into a "better salon"
and charged closer to $80.00 ...then $90.00
THE LAST time...she charged me $120.00!!
I want to know if this is NORMAL and if it is worth it to make an appt and let her know ahead of time that I cannot keep coming back to her if she is charging me more for the same services every time.

Well sine you followed her to a new salon and you seem pretty loyal it sounds outrageous she keeps raising the price and not telling you why. maybe it is the salons policy so talk to her about next time you are about to schedule an appointment, point out how loyal you have been and how you would like to stay with her but if she keeps chargin you so much you will have to switch salons.
my mom is a stylist and she started chrging more throughout her yrs because she was actually pretty good and had a lot of expierience but she only charged more to her new clients teh old ones she would always keep the same price....i think u should tlk to her and tell her that u will leave her if she satrts chrgin u more...its her loss anyways :)

when i dye my hair, the color fades quick, what should i do? all the colors become really light and fade away.
when i go to the hair stylist, my hair is the dyed dark brown color, sort of faded, roots growing out, but when i come out of the hair stylist's, i have about no more color, but faded medium brown with old highlights, and roots of my natural color, what happened? and no they didnt dye it or put chemicals in it, just cut it and straightened it. and do you know any products of hair dye that don't fade out quickly? [ i used natural match before ]
Your hair is dammaged and therefor wont hold colour. your hair was probaly not properly treated or dyed properly by your hair dresser. she may have used too high of a devoloper when depositing colour or lifting your hair. u have to remember.. just cause u dye your highlights back to your normal hair colour or lift a colour out.. (ie black to blond) u still have those chemicals on your hair till they are compleatly cut out. so there isnt much u can really do except use a hair repairing shampoo and conditioner, i strongly recomend going to your local paul mitchell salon and getting a hair repair treatment. after doing that a few times get your hair dyed using paul mitchell the colour because it uses a very low amonia amount in its dye saturation. it will be more gentle for your hair and have better results
well you have to get the right hair color um if you can another way your hair wont fade so fast is if you bleach you hair with hair bleach
I love Redken hair colour it last me for 3 months ask your hairdresser what brand they use, if they don't have Redken phone up a Salon that uses it.
You may need to watch the shampoo/conditioner you are using. I color my hair because it has gone grey very early and I had been using a product by Tigi Bedhead, I think it was called moisture maniac, and apparently the product contains things that help clean off the hair. My dark brown color was fading to reddish copper very quickly. My hair dresser told me to stop using it or any product that "chelates" or strips hair of chemicals.
I have since switched to the bronze goddess line and color is holding better.
...it's not cut straight, there are random long pieces and my right side is about an inch longer than my left...
Go back to the salon, talk to the manager, and have them (not the same stylist) redo your hair. It should be free if not discounted. If you complain about your dissatisfaction of your style in a calm way, they are more apt to fix the problem for you.

YES girl just as Ash said go back and have them fix it...this happened to me like 3 weeks ago...the girl wanted to fix it and I said I wanted someone else to b/c obviously something wasn't on point...I had one side longer too...go back and tell them what you went in for and they will see how it looks and let them know you don't want to pay for it to be done right like it should have been the first time...don't let too much time go by the sooner the better...stay professional don't talk rude or smart but state the facts and let them know how they can satisfy you since you did pay for it to be professionally done and it looks otherwise...umm hmm...
My friend had a similar problem.She and I were getting highlights and the lady that did hers didn't take that long and she only got the top part and she paid for all over and really you only notice it if it's up in a ponytail.We got blonde highlights and people were calling us bumblebee.
Go back and let the owner or manager know about the cut and let them not the original stylist who did the cut fix it.
Go and get your money back,but I would not suggest letting the same person try to fix it. They didn't know what they were doing the first time,so I'm sure they will only make it worse. ok i am so done with my hair right now. i do not think it necessarily looks bad but i want a change, any ideas? plus how do i find a good stylist? i live in tn and every time i get my hair cut (no matter where) it turns out "country", thanks in advance. i will give out best answer some time this evening.

I need your advise, or an opinon , or some sugestion, I went to a wedding but it was a dress up for halloween type of theme. and I went to a hair Stylists who was there for the party , doing everyones hair but, no one knew he was leaving that day to Cali. and we all had our hair done well now he teased, my hair so much and put a lot of spray on it that now i can only untangle one side of my hair , even though I have tried Everyting a friend has told me ,should work. I don't want to cut it ,.It is hip lenght, but for a cause for the locks of hair. For childern with cancer and I do take care of my hair very well . I have always had it washed ,set, and combed out by a female hairdresser, can anyone please advise how to comb out ,with out too much damage to my hair .. Thanks
I would suggest you wash it a couple of times with a little bit of extra shampoo than normal. Afterwards just dry it a little. Then put on some good hair conditioner and leave it one for 10 minutes. Comb your hair over the bath gently and try to get the lugs/tangles out this way. It really should help. Do this for the weeks following till you get them all out. One word of advise, steer clear of over spraying of hair, it really isn't worth it at all. If you need to use an hairspray, choose a good one that isn't glue like.

I love how her hair is dark and has a lot of platnim in it too.
My hair stylists is annoying in that I need to tell her exactly what to do, I can't just show her a photo and ask her for it.
So my question is, do I dye it blonde and then put low-lights in. Or do I dye it dark and put a ton of highlights in? Also what type of cut? Just layers?

don't go dark and then lighten. I had my hair dyed jet black, and wanted dark cherry and blonde added a month or so later on a whim. We had to bleach it just to get the dark cherry to show up, and stopped after one bleaching which made the platinum actually a copper color, not platinum. It would have taken one more session of bleach, which I opted against-didn't want to fry my hair.
I would personally go lighter first, and then add the dark in. It would use much less bleach, because bleach can only take it a few levels at a time. It looks like she has dark underneath and platinum at the top, which would just be two processes- dark for the base and bleach for the crown. Plus she has a couple of months or regrowth showing, which shows how much maintenance would be for your hair to keep it looking good. Her cut looks simple, most likely one length but maybe a few layers.
Hopefully you aren't going for her whole look, just her hair becuase she looks kinda trashy in my opinion. Good luck with your stylist figuring it out, and hope you can find one eventually who knows what she's doing!!

i think the first choice is better,cause if you dye your more darker,then the dark hair wil be more noticed,so dye it blonde and put thin strands of low lights...Also how is it annoying for her to follow your directions if she wont even know what to do? the 1st pic you gave had inapproprite content..why didn't you put the second one and just leave it there? you can get reported for that you know..anyways,that is my option
I believe she has some extensions so that might not all be her REAL hair. As for your hair tell the stylist to bleach your hair not dye. Bleach your hair then add toner to make it more white. As for hair cut say shorter in the front than back.
dye it dark and get bleached highlights.... but ummm if your stylist sucks that bad, then my advice is DO NOT let her touch your hair with bleach and get reccomendations for someone better.....
also... its tought upkeep to have two dyed hair colors....
Your color looks pretty dark the light brownish looks like old highlights soo You could do a frost to get the platiumn and see how it looks. It is complicated really find a new stylist that will listen to you.....

okay, so does anyone here have experienec with locks of love? are you the hair stylist who cuts it? did you donate your hair? did you recieve hair from locks of love?
i want to know, because i am thinking of doing it. also, are there any suggestions on hair styles that i can get for shorter hair?
i also have really thin hair, so will it look good cut short?
and one last question, if my hair is about 4 inches from touching my butt, how short will it be? can i keep it a little long?

well i once had hair past my butt and when i got it cut the hairdresser asked me if i wanted to donate it but if your hairdresser doesn't ask u, then u ask her. if u have thin hair then you should get a hairstyle thats layered to make it look a little thicker. the good thing about layers is that some layers can be like up to your shoulders while other layers will be a lot longer so it would be like having both long and short hair at the same time. u should also think about looking through the hair magazines at the hair salon, thats what i did. good luck with the hair.
I dontated my hair! They need anywhere from 10-12 inched depending on if you have split or dead ends, and also what the hair stylist prefers. I loved that I did it, it made me feel really good that I helped someone. If your hair is that long it will probably at least go to your shoulders.

First off, I need something that matches my personality, its sweet, shy, artistic, and bubbly. Then, I want an edgy hairstyle that would go well with black hair (and if you have any other colour suggestions feel free to add). And also, my clothing style is classic with an eclectic side to it.
I really want a short hair cut with long bangs, but something different from the scene kids. The hair will be a weave (sow-in) and then we'll cut that.
Lastly...I have an oval shaped face. Hope somebody can make something out of that. Best answer automatically gets 10 pts!

Well, in mid - October,
i got my hair cut really, really short. it was about an inch
sticking out of my head. now it's at least 3 inches out.
well anyway, you know the hair over your ears? well, mine
are getting pretty long, and so i tuck them behind my ears
everyday. and it makes me look kind of weird. and when
i tuck it behind, since its getting so long, its starting to get
a curl under my ears. when i leave it over my ears, it looks
all un-even and weird. i dont know what to do about it. do
i keep tucking it behind? do i cut it? if so, how? i don't
want to go to a stylist so soon. i want to wait until my hair
is actually down to my neck at least. ( from the top of my head.)
( if you're wondering, i DONT have a mullet now! i've been
cutting the bottom "part" of my hair so i don't get one. x] )
use hair wax (pantene, garnier) to style the ends of pieces of hair.
make it look natural instead of forcing it out. try styling or mixing up your hair so it has that messyish attitude
